COVID-19: Vietnam records 44 new cases, including 12 in HCM City

Forty-four people have been diagnosed with the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Vietnam during the past 12 hours, including 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s most bustling and populous city.

All the new cases were detected in quarantine or lockdown areas, said the Ministry of Health (MoH) said in its 06.00am COVID-19 update.

Notably, 12 cases were logged in Ho Chi Minh City in close association with the COVID-19 outbreak at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian congregation in Go Vap district.

Elsewhere, 24 cases were reported in Bac Giang, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot, six in Bac Ninh and two in Ha Nam.

Earlier, in its 06.00pm update on June 6 the MoH announced an additional 60 local infections in three localities, with Bac Giang documenting 31 cases, Bac Ninh 18 and HCM City 11.

Vietnam has confirmed 5,656 locally transmitted coronavirus cases, including 18 deaths, since the virus recurred in late April during the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of the total number of infections, Bac Giang makes up more than half, at 3,137.
