First winter cold snap hits Hanoi and Northern Vietnam
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell caused a drop of temperature in the North to below 25 degree Celsius. In mountainous areas the temperature plunged to below 23 degrees Celsius.
By October 16 evening, the lowest temperature in the Red River Delta and Hanoi might fall below 20 degree Celsius.
The temperature in the Northern midlands and mountainous is expected to fall below 18 degrees Celsius. In some places, such as Sa Pa, Sin Ho, Mau Don and Pha Din mountain peak, the temperature may drop to below 15 degrees Celsius.
This cold spell is expected to last until October 18. From October 18 onward, the sun will be back, increasing the temperature and decreasing rains. The sunny weather will be maintained until the end of the week.
Due to the cold spell in association with the storm Khanun, from October 16, Northern Vietnam will have rains.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting also predicted that the cold weather tends to occur in winter 2017-2018 later than previous years. It is likely that severe frigid spells will only appear in January and February 2018.
