France 24 to broadcast news in French in Vietnam
PSNews – The Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam has just granted a license for the France 24 international television channel to expand its operation in Vietnam, by launching a news program in French.
According to a press release from the French Embassy in Vietnam, Marie-Christine Saragosse, Chairwoman and CEO of France Médias Monde received the license which was signed by Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Hoang Vinh Bao on November 2, on the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam of French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.
France 24 has begun broadcasting in English in Vietnam since May 2018. This channel has now covered up to 40% of the Vietnamese households using the television service. The broadcasting of a news program in French is expected to contribute to the development of learning French in Vietnam.
In fact, France 24 was licensed in November 2016 by the local authorities, and its programs have been on offer by FPT Telecom and VNPT Media Corporation since then. But with these recent agreements, the channel will officially broadcast its news programs in English on the local paid T.V networks and reach millions of Vietnamese viewers.
According to the Director of France 24, from its newsroom in Paris, France 24 gives a different perspective to international affairs across the world. With 35 nationalities working in the newsroom and 160 correspondent bureaus all over the world, the expression of diversity, confrontation of viewpoints and debate are central to the channel’s programs.
Broadcasting programs around the clock in the four languages of English, French, Arabic and Spanish, France 24 delivers comprehensive international news bulletins with analyses and commentaries from different angles in every 30 minutes, offering viewers the general context and helping them better understand international developments.
