Hanoi streets fall quiet amid new COVID-19 outbreak

Hanoi started shutting down all food and beverage establishments as well as hair salons and beauty parlors from 12:00 on May 25 so as to contain the spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19.

A dispatch issued by Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh says food and beverage facilities can only allow takeaways, and hair salons and beauty parlors are requested to temporarily close. However, a beauty shop on Dang Van Ngu street still opens on May 26.

According to a document issued by the Ha Noi’s Department of Justice, those who fail to temporarily suspend operation of their catering service facilities in epidemic-hit areas shall be subject to fines of VND 10,000,000 for individuals and 20,000,000 for organizations.
Those who fail to implement decisions on restriction of mass gatherings or decisions on temporarily suspension of business/service activities in public places to aid COVID-19 prevention and control work shall be fined up to VND 10,000,000 for individuals, and VND 20,000,000 for organizations.

The new outbreak saw many city residents use food delivery services for the first time, and others significantly increase purchase frequency.
