PSNews – The two issues of patient-centered care and patient safety  have been high on the agenda of a conference of healthcare managers and practitioners.

The annual conference of the Club of Hospital Directors in the Southern region kicked off on November 5th in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa.

Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Pham Le Tuan affirmed that financial autonomy will require public hospitals to promote innovation and improve quality of their healthcare services. These must be the prioritized tasks for hospitals to well perform self-mastery in management and operation.

Public hospitals should change their thinking on patients and quality management; in other words, they should take "Patient - Centered Care and Patient Safety" as their first priority while reforming their health examination and treatment processes, applying the most convenient healthcare procedures, and minimizing complexity and annoyance for health insurance card holders.

Associate Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, Director of the Department of Healthcare Management said that  public hospitals' leaders will be more empowered by such an autonomy mechanism.

Despite many challenges such as their long-time subsidy thinking and practice as well as complex mechanisms and policies, leaders of hospitals can enjoy entire rights to their hospitals’ organization, development plan and finance, which may promote their creativity.

Delegates at the conference agreed that hospital quality improvement should be prioritized and implemented everyday, from general to detail and in a serious manner by all members of public hospitals.
