Island city asked to enhance COVID-19 prevention tactics
The meeting took place in the context of complicated developments in the COVID-19 pandemic in the neighboring country of Cambodia and a potential rise in illegal border crossings in the time to come.
Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of Phu Quoc People’s Committee, emphasized that the island city would deploy all forces to prevent the pandemic. The local authorities may ban all fishing vehicles from going fishing at sea, and all people on fishing vessels going ashore must make their health statements.
The city’s leaders also urged all communes to establish their own COVID-19 prevention teams to protect their people while reinforcing militiamen to the local medical checkpoints.
Speaking at the meeting, Mai Van Huynh, Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council of Kien Giang, asked Phu Quoc’s authorities and forces to raise their vigilance, handle all violations of medical regulations, especially cases of illegal border crossings. They should brace for the worst situation, enhance their capability to trace suspected COVID-19 cases and reinforce quarantine facilities.
