“Make a safe city for women and girls” kicks off

The Aid for social protection program foundation Vietnam (AFV) kicked off the project “Make a safe city for women and girls” in December 2017 with the funding of the Irish Aid and ActionAid Vietnam, contributing to ensuring the safety of women and girls in public space.
According to ActionAid Vietnam’s research report in 2016, 63.4% women and girls feel anxious about the risks of danger in public places. Furthermore, women and girls normally keep silent when they are abused and harassed; meanwhile almost all men and witnesses take no action when observing it.

Launching on February 1st with the total budget of nearly € 100,000, the project reflected the efforts to bring Vietnamese people the application S-city, helping us utilize technology in preventing violence and sexual harassment as well as building a safe and friendly communities. In addition to upgrade the S-city application with full of functions, it is expected to reach about 10,000 users.
The project will also utilize data and information from the S-city to draw an overview of the safety situation in cities and communities in Vietnam which is considered an important input to accelerate the piloting and integration of "The safe cities and communities" criteria in deciding policies and providing public services in Vietnam.
The S-City application offers many functions including mapping safe routes, reporting unsafe places, making an emergency call, evaluating public services, and reporting incidents of sexual assault or harassment. S-City can be freely downloaded from the App Store (for iOS devices), CH Play (for Android devices) and Windows Store (for Window devices) by searching for “S-City ActionAid”.
