Police arrest Chinese citizen allegedly for illegally bringing foreigners into Vietnam

The information was announced by Major General Vu Xuan Vien, Director of the Da Nang Municipal Police Department on July 26.

According to Major General Vien, the Da Nang police in collaboration with the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department arrested the Chinese citizen on the early morning of July 26.

“He may be the leader of a gang that illegally trafficked Chinese citizens to Da Nang and Quang Nam in recent times”, Major General Vu Xuan Vien noted.

Earlier, on July 21, the Da Nang police arrested and then prosecuted a Chinese national and two Vietnamese citizens on charges of illegally trafficking foreigners into Vietnam.

At that time, the police did not provided the suspects’ names as well as their methods of illegally transporting foreigners to Da Nang.

Over the past few weeks, the city’s police have detected dozens of Chinese citizens, illegally residing in the city. All the illegal immigrants have been taken to a centralized quarantine camp. They have been tested for COVID-19 and will stay at the centralized quarantine camp for 14 days before sending back to China.

In Quang Nam province, competent authorities also found a group of 21 Chinese nationals without legal documents. They were taken to a centralized quarantine facility. According to the Quang Nam police, the 21 Chinese nationals were taken into Vietnam by Gao Liang Gu.

At this point of time, the local police are expanding the investigation into the illegal human trafficking cases.

Vietnam has confirmed four cases of COVID-19 community transmission in the past few days, three in Da Nang and one in Quang Ngai province. These infection cases broke Vietnam's 99-day streak with no community transmission. The local health authorities have not yet tracked the infection sources of the cases.

The country has officially banned on the entry of foreign nationals into the country since March 22 with several exceptions, including diplomats, experts and skilled workers with health confirmation documents. All other immigrants have to undergo 14-day quarantining on arrival.
