Thousands of fishermen provided with life jackets

The volunteer group "Sharing" founded by Ms. Mai Thi Hanh - former State President Truong Tan Sang’s spouse, collaborated with the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) Central Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association on October 7 to present 500 life vests to fishermen in need in Phu Yen province.

The event was part of a charity program run by the group to support fishermen in Vietnam’s Central provinces and soldiers stationed on DK1 platforms.
Earlier, the volunteer group "Sharing", the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) Central Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association mobilized organizations, businesses and people to donate money to buy 3,500 life jackets for fishermen in need in the Central provinces as well as soldiers on DK1 platforms.
On October 8 and 9, the donors will present 500 life jackets to fishermen in Quang Ngai province and 1000 others to fishermen in Binh Dinh province.
Fishermen in Quang Binh, Quang Tri and DK1 platforms will receives life jackets in upcoming November.
Huynh Ba Lan, Director of Kien A Joint Stock Company, one of the main sponsors for the drive, said, each set of life jacket costs 1.2 million VND, including useful tools (specialized shoes and glasses, warm cotton socks, glove, mirror, siren, flashlight and dry food…), to help fishermen survive in case they have accidents at sea.
Meanwhile, according to the group’s founder, Ms. Mai Thi Hanh, the jackets made in Vietnam, are expected to make fishermen more confident when fishing at sea while helping soldiers on DK1 platforms perform their duties.
