Unreasonable nutrition increases burden rate of disease and mortality
Facts show that nutrition-based therapy for patients has so far received little attention in Vietnam although the Ministry of Heath issued a circular in 2011 to guide hospitals through the application of diet or the use of nutrition and abstinence in treating patients in order to provide comprehensive care for patients and improve the quality of healthcare services.
Another fact is that the nutrition department has been established at most hospitals but its operation still does not meet requirements, and the staff are not capable of devising appropriate diet regimes for different patients.
The abuse of nutrition or inappropriate diet, which results in obesity, metabolic disorders, hypertension, hyperglycemia, heart disease, diabetes and cancer, has rapidly increased, accounting for 73% of the total disease and mortality rate.
Currently, the National Nutrition Institute is working on nutritional products as supplements assisting the treatment of a number of diseases, and is conducting research on specialized food for those who work in special conditions, such as naval troops, rangers, policemen and workers in the heavy industry.
