Vietnam confirms 21 further domestic infections in 7 localities

 An additional 21 cases of local transmission were confirmed by the Ministry of Health during the six hours to midday May 13, raising the total number of locally-infected cases to 664 since the virus resurged in the nation on April 27.

Of the latest cases, 7 are in Bac Giang, Hung Yen (4), Thai Binh (4), Hanoi (3), Hue (1), Ha Nam (1) and Hoa Binh (1), and all were detected in quarantine areas.

With the latest detection, the national tally now counts 3,679, including 2,234 community transmissions, and 1,445 imported infections.

Vietnam is currently facing the most challenging COVID-19 wave, which has recorded 664 domestically-transmitted cases across 26 cities and provinces since late last month.

A total of 77,648 people who came in close contact with COVID-19 patients or arrived from pandemic-hit areas are being quarantined nationwide as part of the nation’s COVID-19 containment efforts.

One day earlier on May 12, a total of 82 local transmissions were recorded in 11 provinces and cities, which were closely linked to various outbreaks in most northern and central localities.
