Vietnam highly valued in promoting and protecting human rights

International delegates, including UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Kamal Malhotra, and Ms. Caitlin Wiesen, Representative of UNDP Vietnam, acknowledged and highly appreciated Vietnam’s commitments and efforts to promote and protect human rights.
At the event, delegates also discussed legal aspects of the limited exercise of human rights in the epidemic context, the practice of human rights in cyberspace, the role and contribution of all social sectors, especially non-governmental and mass organizations in implementing Vietnamese Government’s measures to counter COVID-19.
The COVID-19 outbreak has had severe impact on the world in general and Vietnam in particular. The pandemic also has left a strong impact on the practice of basic human rights.
In that context, the Government of Vietnam quickly and transparently introduced effective policies and measures with the top priority given to disease control and protection of the health of the people, while fully implementing its international commitments to protecting human rights.
Participants in the workshop shared useful information and experience in protecting and promoting human rights in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on protecting vulnerable groups, including women, children, people with disabilities, and strengthening the protection of Vietnamese expats.
