Vietnam to extradite Indonesian pirates to Malaysia
On September 12th, the Hanoi People’s Court has agreed to extradite eight Indonesian pirates to Malaysia for trial.
In early February 2016, the Minister of Home Affairs of Malaysia sent the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security a request for extraditing the eight Indonesian suspected pirates to Malaysia for trial. Accordingly, Vietnam's Public Security asked Vietnamese court to study the requirement.
While on Malaysian territorial waters, the ship Orkim Harmony was attacked by such pirate crew at about 8pm of June 11th 2015 and a crewmember was injured.
The eight suspected pirates escaped to Vietnamese territorial waters and were arrested by the Vietnam Marine Police and Border Security Force.
Then, such pirates were handed-over to the Investigation Police Department on Social Order related crimes. After studying the case file and the meeting's result, Hanoi People's Court has accepted the request for extraditing eight Indonesian pirates and their objects from Vietnam to Malaysia for trial.
