A special Mid-Autumn Festival for children in 2021

This year Vietnamese children celebrate their traditional Mid-Autumn Festival a bit later than in previous years due to the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak.

For children, the Mid-Autumn Festival or Full-moon Festival is an ideal occasion for them to parade long streets, singing and carrying colourful lanterns, or to attend a special party watching the moon rise in the night sky and enjoying moon cakes.

This year the complicated developments of the COVID-19 outbreak has forced many localities, including Hanoi capital, to impose social distancing in an attempt to halt the spread of the virus.

Several street markets selling festival stuff in Hanoi have been left deserted until the Hanoi municipal administration decided to ease social distancing one day ahead of the festival.

Many Hanoians pour out onto streets to buy festival assorted paper lanterns.

Children wearing a COVID-19 face mask have the chance to wander festival markets buying items they like.

Eye-catching, colourful paper lanterns of different sizes and shapes such as lions, fishes, stars, and butterflies are indispensable items for children during the festival.

Children cannot watch the moon rise and enjoy moon cakes without such colourful star lanterns.

Many families quickly buy festival stuff for their children and return home to avoid large gatherings

Though children are not allowed to parade and sing their songs as in previous years, they enjoy a special Full-moon Festival in their families.
