Bac Giang province observes 138th anniversary of Yen The Uprising
A ceremony was held in the Hoang Hoa Tham relic site in the northern province of Bac Giang on March 15 to mark the 138th anniversary of the Yen The uprising.
The festival aimed to honor the significant history of the uprising and pay homage to the uprising’s leader, Hoang Hoa Tham, and his troops who fought the French colonialists for nearly three decades, from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
The uprising against the French troop, which began in March 16, 1884, was led by Luong Van Nam and then Hoang Hoa Tham.
Despite failing to win the final victory, the three-decade uprising demonstrated Vietnam’s strength, and desire for independence and freedom. The uprising clearly showed Vietnamese people’s solidarity and patriotism.
According to the organizing committee, the ritual part was held solemnly at the Hoang Hoa Tham historical relic site (Phon Xuong town, Yen The district). Some usual cultural and sporting events such as martial arts performances, wrestling, archery were cancelled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Yen The Festival was recognized as part of the national intangible cultural heritage.
