COVID-19: 4,271 new cases recorded in 17 localities over 12 hours

Vietnam has confirmed 4,271 more coronavirus cases, including four imported cases, in 17 cities and provinces across the country during the past 12 hours, reported the Ministry of Health (MoH) on August 4 morning.

Of the locally acquired infections, 1,044 were documented in residential areas or through random testing, the MoH said in its 06.00am coronavirus update.

Most of the locally acquired infections were detected in southern provinces, with Ho Chi Minh City registering 2,365 cases.

It was followed by Binh Duong 1,032, Tay Ninh 194 Dong Nai 164, Long An 146, Binh Thuan 77 and Vinh Long 60.

The past 12 hours also saw dozens of new cases infected in central localities such as Da Nang 93, Phu Yen 28, and Binh Dinh 23.

Lang Son was the only province in the north that recorded only one infection case.

As of 06.00am on August 4 Vietnam has logged 170,563 new cases following the resurgence of the virus in late April, and 1174,461 cases since the start of the first outbreak in the country in January 2020.

Nearly 51,000 patients have recovered from the disease and have been discharged from hospital.

Close to 7.3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, with 744,331 people receiving the second shot.
