The large-scale COVID-19 testing campaign aims to identify and isolate infected cases to control the pandemic in the city.

In response to the city’s decision, the Da Nang Municipal Police Department has deployed forces to all residential areas to enforce the social distancing regulations. Local policemen also participate in other pandemic prevention and control activities during the social distancing period.

A local police officer said the local police forces join over 1,000 local counter-pandemic teams to control travelling on inner-city roads, enforce the social distancing regulations, deliver goods and assist local people in need.

Meanwhile, other police forces, particularly traffic police, continue their duties at COVID checkpoints on the gateways to the city, ensure traffic order and safety, and check medical declarations of drivers transporting goods to and from Tien Sa port as well as of those who transport necessities to the city from other provinces.

Da Nang has recorded over 1,700 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of July. The health sector of the city would be overloaded if the total COVID cases reached 6,000, according to the Municipal Health Department. The decision to clock down the city is a drastic and necessary step to curb the spread of the disease.

During the social distancing period, all residents are banned from leaving their homes. Agencies and offices are required to minimize the number of staff members, while only 30% of the total workforce of businesses in industrial parks and hi-tech parks are allowed to go to work.
