Five more fishermen rescued after drifting at sea for 12 days
Foreign cargo ship BUFFALO sailing from Egypt to China has rescued five Vietnamese fishermen on a coracle roughly 214 nautical miles off the central coast of Nha Trang, confirmed local authorities of Binh Thuan province.
The authorities said the foreign ship found the group still alive on a coracle at sea at midday on July 22. The fishermen later said there had originally been eight people on the coracle, but three had died after succumbing to exhaustion and were buried at sea.
The five were among the 15 Vietnamese fishermen on board fishing vessel Bth 97478 TS that lost contact on July 10 on the way back from a fishing ground near the DK1 Platform of the Truong Sa archipelago.
Four of the fishermen were rescued on July 19 by fishing vessel BD96935 TS of Binh Dinh province when they were on a coracle drifting out to sea. Three others who were also on the coracle with them had died.
