Hanoi bus stations fall quiet as Tet draws very near

Few passengers can be seen heading back to their hometowns to gather alongside their families as Tet draws near, resulting in deserted scenes occurring at major bus stations across the capital, a contrast to the bustling scenes recorded in previous years.

A quiet scene can be spotted at a bus station in Hanoi, quite different from previous years.

Many people have decided to remain in the capital this year to enjoy Tet celebrations due to fears relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Passengers are required to complete health declarations before being permitted to board the bus.

Tan The Hong, a driver on the Hanoi-Ha Tinh route, says each bus only has around three passengers, with such quiet scenes never happening before.

No passengers can be seen on the bus running the Hanoi-Hai Phong route 10 minutes before departure.

Similar deserted scenes are recorded at Giap Bat bus station.

Few passengers wait for buses at Giap Bat station.

Only one passenger travels on the Hanoi-Nam Dinh route on January 27.

Scenes at the bus stations are not as busy as in previous years due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
