More than 4,800 positive COVID-19 cases detected across 21 localities

A total of 4,802 new active COVID-19 cases, including 10 imported infections were recorded across 21 Vietnamese localities over the past 12 hours to August 11 morning, according to the Ministry of Health.

Ho Chi Minh City’s ongoing outbreaks logged 2,128 new domestic COVID-19 patients, followed by its neighbors of Binh Duong with 936, Long An with 515, Dong Nai with 428, Tay Ninh with 263, Tien Giang with 177, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau with 102. The rest of the cases were registered in 14 other localities.

Of the latest cases, 1,135 were recorded in the community and 3,657 in quarantine zones and areas that have been isolated.

As of August 11 morning, Vietnam registered a total of 230,560 domestic cases of COVID-19, including nearly 290,000 cases of local transmission and 77,574 recoveries during the fourth pandemic wave that recurred in late April.

The overall number of imported infections hit 2,377 while the total recoveries stand at 80,348.

One day earlier, the Health Ministry confirmed 8,385 new COVID-19 community transmissions in 39 cities and provinces, bringing the ongoing wave's tally to 224,147.

Over three months into the fourth coronavirus wave, HCM City accounted for more than half of the nation's cases, with 131,879, trailed by Binh Duong with 32,787.

The southern city also reported the highest fatalities on the previous day, without 308 out of 388 confirmed in 13 cities and provinces.

Meanwhile, under a government resolution on COVID-19 prevention and control issued on August 10, HCM City aims to bring ongoing outbreak under control prior to September 15, while Binh Duong, Long An, Dong Nai provinces contain their outbreaks before September 1 and other localities August 25.

Regarding vaccination rollout, more than 11.3 million Vietnamese people have been vaccinated against COVID-19, including more than one million fully inoculated with two shots.
