Northern region braces for cold spell as temperatures drop
A new cold spell is forecast to hit the northern region from the night of December 17, causing temperatures to drop sharply to between 10 and 16 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures are anticipated to fall below 10 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, whilst they will fluctuate between 13 and 16 degrees Celsius in delta localities.
The National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has therefore warned that the cold spell could potentially last for up to three days.
The centre also said that due to the cold spell, showers were forecast to hit Hanoi and the wider north region from December 18.
Simultaneously, torrential rain with thunderstorms are set to spread from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien-Hue.
In anticipation of this harsh fall in temperature, citizens residing in many northern localities, especially the elderly and children, are advised to don warm clothes in order to protect their health. In addition, local authorities are taking swift measures aimed at helping residents in rural areas to protect their plants and animals.
In the capital, the cold spell will likely cause temperatures to tumble to between 14 and 16 degrees Celsius from December 17.
