Vietnam, Laos further strengthen education cooperation
The 2022 Vietnam Higher Education Expo, which was held in the Lao capital city of Vientiane in September, gathered Vietnamese and Lao education-training leaders, representatives from 50 universities and 55 agencies as well as teachers and students.
The event, which was held jointly by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training and Lao Ministry of Education and Sports, aims to celebrate the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022, the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Statistics showed that, in the 2011-2021 period, Vietnam received nearly 30,000 Lao students. In the 2011-2020 period, Vietnam trained 1,196 officials and teachers of Laos through 44 courses in Vietnam with durations from 2-9 months.
Within the framework of the exhibition, a forum on improving the quality of training in education cooperation between Vietnam and Laos was held, with the participation of nearly 300 delegates.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc affirmed that the exhibition was a chance for Lao students, lecturers, researchers and managers to meet, exchange information and seek scholarships and cooperation opportunities with universities in Vietnam.
According to Deputy Minister Phuc, during the development process of the two countries, the Vietnamese and Lao governments have set out specific strategies for cooperation in education and human resource development.
The forum offered an opportunity for educational institutions, educational management agencies and enterprises from Vietnam and Laos to share their achievements and proposed specific issues towards improving the quality of higher education of the two countries.
At the forum, 24 memoranda of understanding were signed between Vietnamese and Lao education management agencies, universities and colleges.
