Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE Cadets and Youth Rapid was hosted online with 10 age events: U10, U12, U14, U16 and U18 for boys and girls. The top six players of each event will advance to Super Final.

Eight Vietnamese players in different age groups made it to the Super Final but none could win a title. Nhung and Duong almost reached the highest spot.

As announced, in the Super Final, which took place from Dec. 18 to 22, the players competed in a round-robin basis with whoever wins the most point out of six matches to claim the title.

In the last match of the U16 event, Nhung needed a win to finish first but lost and accepted second place behind Kazakhstan's Xeniya Balabayeva. Duong won the last two matches but was still half a point behind champion of the U18 event, Govhar Beydullayeva of Azerbaijan.

Earlier, in August, Nhung claimed the U16 FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth title. Nhung defeated another Vietnamese player, Vu Bui Thi Thanh Van, after two games in the final.

Another Vietnamese player, Dau Khuong Duy also claimed a ticket to Super Final, after beating Russia's Matfey Yurasov in the third-place clash.
