Vietnamese students win 6 science Olympic medals

All six Vietnamese students participating in the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) have brought home medals, including four gold medals and two silver.

The IJSO 2021 was hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from December 12 – 22 in both in-person and online forms.This year there were nearly 400 contestants from 59 countries and territories who were tested in physics, chemistry and biology.

The contesttants have gone through three exams including: multiple choice, theory and practice, with questions in the subjects of physics, chemistry and biology.

The Vietnamese candidates, who are all 10th graders from Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, brought home four gold and two silver medals.These were the best results Vietnamese students have achieved since the took part in the IJSO competition over the past 10 years.

Initiated in 2004, the annual competition has been held alternately by the Ministry of Education and Training of countries for students aged 15 in order to challenge and nurture scientific talents.

At 16th IJSO, Vietnamese students brought home three gold and three silver medals.
