French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe walks about Hanoi pedestrian streets

PSNews - French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe took a walk in the pedestrian street area around Hoan Kiem Lake with Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung.

French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe on November 3 had a meeting with Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung in Hanoi. The two sides discussed the city’s infrastructural development as well as opportunities for cooperation between Hanoi with the French localities.

According to the VNA, Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung thanked France for providing ODA for Hanoi to carry out projects in cultural preservation, environmental treatment and infrastructure, including urban railway.

He also informed the French PM on Hanoi’s cooperation with French enterprises and localities. Hanoi also engaged in medical cooperation with Paris, and conducted several joint schemes with the French Development Agency in the preservation of cultural heritage and the ancient quarter, waste treatment, and in fighting environmental pollution and adapting to climate change.

The Hanoi leader took the occasion to suggest that Hanoi students be allowed to study at the Lycée français Alexandre Yersin. He also proposed partnership in digitalizing database and building e-government and smart city.  

The French Prime Minister shared his admiration of Hanoi’s efforts to preserve its cultural values. He pledged to do his best to support the cooperation between Hanoi and French localities.

During the trip, the French Prime Minister received a beautiful portrait of him painted by a local street painter. Prime Minister Édouard Philippe appeared to be interested in the painting.
He thanked the Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People's Committee and the young artist.

After the walk around the banks of Hoan Kiem Lake, French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe visited the Temple of Literature. On November 4, he is expected to meet with the Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Municipal Party Committee, attend the French Tech Viet Business Forum, meet the French community and leave Vietnam, concluding his visit.
