PM Phuc to attend 10th Mekong-Japan Summit, visit Japan

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife will lead a high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting and visit Japan from October 8-10, according to the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 10th Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting marks the 10th anniversary of the formation and development of the Mekong-Japan cooperation mechanism and the three-year implementation of the Tokyo Strategy 2015.

The Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting is set to transpire in Tokyo on October 9. The leaders will compare notes on strong growth and development, primarily on the following three areas: Connectivity, People and Environment. 

They are expected to formulate a new principle for the Mekong-Japan cooperation.

The Vietnamese delegation's attendance at the meeting aims to affirm its commitment to this cooperation mechanism, assess the experience gained over the past 10 years, outline major orientations, and propose measures to improve cooperation effectiveness in the time ahead.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's forthcoming visit to Japan takes place on a special occasion in conjunction with the 45th anniversary of the two nations' diplomatic ties with a view to further deepening their extensive strategic partnership which is growing steadily in multiple fields, thereby contributing to the strengthening of mutual political trust. 

During the trip, the Vietnamese government leader is scheduled to attend the Mekong-Japan Summit Meeting, give a speech at the Mekong-Japan Investment Forum, pay a courtesy visit to the Japanese Emperor, and have talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

He is also due to meet with parliamentary leaders, work with the Japan Business Federation, deliver a speech at the Vietnam Investment Promotion Conference and talk with several leading Japanese businesses.
