Vietnam’s Public Security Minister receives INTA Chairman

PSNews - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on October 30 met with Mr. Bernd Lange, Chairman of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) of the European Parliament.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam expressed his delight at the fine development of the bilateral relations between Vietnam and the European Union (EU) in the past time, especially in terms of trade and investment cooperation.

He also lauded the support of the EU, EP and Mr. Bernd Lange for the signing of the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and Investment Protection Agreement (IPA) last June.

Minister To Lam highlighted that Vietnam hoped Mr. Lange and other members of the INTA Committee to support and urge the EP to soon approve the two signed agreement.

Minister Lam emphasized that the EVFTA opened a new chapter in economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. The National Assembly of Vietnam is expected to ratify the EVFTA in early 2020. To date, Vietnam has been signatories of 16 free trade agreements, 11 of which are in effect, including the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). This has demonstrated the important position of Vietnam in the region and the world.

Minister To Lam also affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam will further cooperate with relevant agencies of the EU and EP in fields of crime prevention and combat, and cyber security.

For his part, Mr. Lange appreciated the economic achievements of Vietnam over the past time.

He also vowed to do his best to accelerate the approval of the EVFTA and noted that the INTA Committee in particular and the EP in general would like to promote cooperation with the Public Security Ministry of Vietnam in all areas of mutual concern.
