Head of Vietnamese Delegation to UN presents Letter of Credence to UN Secretary-General
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, after a week in New York to take on a new assignment, on February 25 presented the Letter of Credence from President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the UN Secretary General António Guterres.
At a ceremony held to present his credentials, the UN chief affirmed that the country is a reliable partner of the UN and that he personally has a very deep and positive impression on the leaders, the country, and people of Vietnam.
The Secretary-General went on to highlight the development of Vietnamese achievements over recent years as a typical example of a developing country's success.
He also highly appreciated the country’s ability to hold important positions at various UN agencies, including the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020 to 2021 term, along with Vietnam's participation in peacekeeping operations.
The UN chief expressed his hope that, during the term of office taken by Ambassador Giang, Vietnam would continue to make effective contributions to UN forums and activities in New York. This will serve to promote multilateralism on the basis of respecting the UN Charter and deepening the growing partnership between the UN and the country.
In response to the Secretary-General's congratulations, Ambassador Giang expressed his honour at assuming the role of head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN. He conveyed the greetings of Vietnamese leaders to the Secretary-General, whilst affirming that the country has always been a reliable and responsible partner of the UN.
The Vietnamese diplomat added that he will make greater efforts in an effort to promote the nation’s active and proactive participation, along with practical and effective contributions to the common work of the wider international community. This is especially important in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), climate change response, international peacekeeping, as well as active contributions to discussions on the future direction of UN co-operation as the “Our Common Agenda” (OCA).
Furthermore, the Ambassador also expressed a desire to work closely alongside UN agencies to ramp up co-operative relations between Vietnam and ASEAN with the UN.
