Minister of Public Security General To Lam had a meeting with a high-ranking delegation of the Korean Coast Guard Agency led by Commander of the Korean Coast Guard Kim Jong-uk, on June 21, 2023, in Hanoi.
Based on the results of the working session between the two agencies in April 2023, the two sides have coordinated closely in implementing cooperation programs and plans effectively over the past time.
In the near future, the two sides have a plan to sign an MoU on cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Coast Guard of the Republic of Korea, which will be a highlight in the important action program to boost the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as lay a foundation for the two agencies to establish and implement their long-term cooperation commitments in areas of mutual interest.
In the coming time, Minister To Lam believed that, after the signing of the MoU, the two sides will actively explore cooperation areas in which the Korean side has strengths and that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam needs.
In particular, the two sides need to focus on implementing the signed deal, in which the Korean Coast Guard will transfer two patrol boats to the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, and also train Vietnamese waterway police officers in running them.
For his part, Commander Kim Jong-uk affirmed that he would push the completion of key cooperation deals between the two sides.
He also pledged that the Korean Coast Guard will early hand over the two patrol boats to the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, and proposed the Koean Government to provide technical support and maintenance packages.
