PM Pham Minh Chinh begins official visit to the Netherlands

After concluding the two-day visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation arrived at Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam, beginning an official visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands at the invitation of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

Those welcoming PM Pham Minh Chinh and his entourage at the airport included Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam Kees van Baar,  Chief of Protocol at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dominique Kuhling Dominique Kuhling, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Netherlands Pham Viet Anh, embassy staff, and Vietnamese community representatives in the Netherlands.

During the visit, the Vietnamese Government chief will have a host of meetings with Queen of the Netherlands, his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte, parliamentary leaders and mayors of big cities of the Netherlands.

PM Chinh is also set to visit major economic establishments such as technology parks and seaports, atten the Vietnam - Netherlands business forum, witness the signing ceremony of cooperation documents between the two countries, and meet the Vietnamese community in the host nation.

Over the past years, Vietnam-Netherlands relations have grown strongly in a multitude of fields, especially in investment, trade, agriculture and climate change response.

The Netherlands represents Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and the EU's largest investor in the Southeast Asian nation.

Last year's bilateral trade reached US$8.37 billion, up nearly 10% compared to 2020, while the past 9 months of 2022 saw bilateral trade hit US$8.2 billion, up 36% on-year.

Regarding investment, the Netherlands has run 380 projects in Vietnam with a total capital of US$13.5 billion.

Within the framework of the strategic partnership on climate change and sustainable agriculture, the two sides have carried out numerous medium and long-term cooperation programs and projects.

Over the past two years, the Netherlands provided Vietnam with 1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and equipment worth VND43 billion.

PM Chinh's visit to the Netherlands is expected to contribute to consolidating, and deepening the Vietnam-Netherlands comprehensive partnership with a particular focus on boosting cooperation in areas where the European nation has strengths and the Southeast Asian nation has demand such as circular economy, renewable energy, and climate change adaptation.
