Indonesia was the first country in Southeast Asia to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (December 30, 1955). Vietnam is Indonesia’s only strategic partner in Southeast Asia. Bilateral relations have been maintained stably through reciprocal visit exchanges by leaders of the two countries.

Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Indonesia hit US$14.1 billion last year, representing a year-on-year rise of 22.6%. By the end of May 2023, bilateral trade turnover was US$5.4 billion, equal to the same period in 2022. The two countries aim to raise their trade turnover to US$15 billion by 2028.

As of March, Indonesia ranked fifth in ASEAN and 30th out of 143 countries investing in Vietnam.

While staying in Indonesia, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue will attend the 44th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in an effort to strengthen ASEAN’s solidarity and central role, as well as relations between AIPA and its partners, contributing to the process of building the ASEAN Community.
