Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a conference held by the Ministry of Public Security to review results of special anti-narcotics campaigns, on the morning of November 22, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated the Counter-Narcotics Police Force for the large outcomes of the three major anti-narcotics campaigns, contributing to ensuring security and order and promoting socio-economic development of the country.

These feats have embellished the glorious tradition of the Vietnamese People's Public Security Forces in general and the Counter-Narcotics Police Force in particular.

Regarding the force’s key tasks in the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the force to advise local Party committees and authorities on approaches to effectively implement the Party’s resolutions, the State’s laws and Government’s directives on countering illicit drugs, play its key role in preventing and controlling illicit drug abuse and trafficking, and resolutely fight all kinds of crimes related to narcotics.

The Prime Minister reiterated the view of the Politburo saying that Vietnam is committed not to become an "international illicit drug transit", and that Vietnam will never "legalize narcotics."

According to him, it is necessary to mobilize the entire political system and the entire people to participate in the fight against illicit drugs.

In addition, Prime Minister Chinh also underscored the importance of enhancing law dissemination and education so as to raise public awareness of the peril of narcotics while focusing on building and replicating effective counter-narcotics models at the grassroots levels, especially in remote and ethnic minority areas.

On behalf of the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc thanked Prime Minister Chinh for his instructions and vowed that the Ministry of Public Security will craft programs and plans based on his directions to effectively prevent and control illicit drug abuse and trafficking in the coming time.

The deputy minister also asked the Counter-Narcotics Police Force to fight illicit drug-related crime more drastically in the coming time, expand investigation of special cases to unmask and arrest all involved organizations and individuals, early bring cleared cases to trial, and further strengthen collaboration with the Customs force, the Border Guard and other forces as well as with international agencies and partners in preventing and fighting illicit drug trafficking.
