Vietnam, RoK strengthen defence cooperation
Defence Minister Phan Van Giang welcomed Deputy Defence Minister of the Republic of Korea Park Jae-min in Hanoi on September 16 to exchange views on defence cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK.
Genera. Giang said the Vietnam-RoK relations, including defence cooperation, have developed strongly since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1992, especially after they lifted their relationship to a strategic cooperation partnership in 2009.
He appreciated the results of the ninth Vietnam – RoK Defense Policy Dialogue that took place on the same day and wished that the two sides will continue to strengthen effective and substantive friendship and cooperation in various fields.
He thanked the RoK Government for providing Vietnam with aid packages, including cash and medical equipment, to support its COVID-19 fight.
Earlier, Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien and his RoK counterpart Park Jae-min co-chaired the ninth Vietnam-RoK Defense Policy Dialogue.
The two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern in order to enhance mutual understanding and trust.
On bilateral cooperation, they agreed to maintain the exchange of delegations, including dialogue and consultation mechanisms at the deputy ministerial level, and boost cooperation in human resource training, support in UN peacekeeping, and defence industry, as well as in overcoming wartime consequences in Vietnam.
