Vietnamese expatriates offer incense at Thang Long Imperial Citadel

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and outstanding Vietnamese expatriates on January 22 offered incense at Hanoi’s Thang Long Imperial Citadel to pay their respect to Vietnamese ancestors and pray for peace and prosperity in the new lunar year.

President Phuc and overseas Vietnamese perform an incense offering ceremony to pay homage to ancestors and report on the return to the fatherland of the expatriates from around the world.

Many expatriates cannot hide their joy and emotion upon returning to the homeland for the lunar New Year holiday after a two-year absense due to COVID-19.

President Phuc and the expatriates later release carps into a pond named after late President Ho Chi Minh inside the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Complex. The ritual is observed by Vietnamese people on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month every year to honour the Kitchen Gods.

In a cozy atmosphere, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc talk with overseas Vietnamese, encouraging them to overcome difficulties, and join hands to contribute to their host country and the homeland.

Nearly 60 intellectuals and entrepreneurs representing Vietnamese people from 23 countries and territories globally return to Vietnam for the annual Xuan Que Huong (Homeland Spring) programme ahead of the lunar New Year holiday.
