Minister Luong Tam Quang hosts Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam
PSNews - Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Denny Abdi, on the afternoon of August 23rd, in Hanoi.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang highlighted that Indonesia was the first country in the Southeast Asia to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1955, and the two countries will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam – Indonesia diplomatic relations next year.
In the buildup to the coming anniversary, the two countries are striving to promote bilateral cooperation to bring practical benefits to people of the two countries as well as further develop the traditional friendship and strategic partnership in a comprehensive and practical manner.
The host revealed that, in the field of security and law enforcement, the two sides had effectively implemented signed cooperation documents including the Agreement on Extradition, the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on countering terrorism, the MoC on combating drugs, trafficking of psychotropic substances and precursors, while regularly exchanging crime information and ensuring safety and security for one country’s citizens living and working in the other country.
Over the past years, the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) have well maintained the Vietnam – Indonesia Deputy-Ministerial Security Dialogue mechanism.
In addition, with their rich experiences in training personnel to join the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping forces, INP has opened many training courses to train Vietnamese police officers to become UN police officers.
Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that the bilateral ties between MPS and INP had positively and substantively blossomed over the past time.
Regarding bilateral cooperation in the coming time, Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the two sides should enhance delegation exchange between Vietnamese and Indonesian law enforcement agencies, while maintaining the Vietnam – Indonesia Deputy-Ministerial Security Dialogue mechanism on an annual rotational basis.
The Vietnamese Minister also suggested that the two sides expand cooperation, enhance information sharing as well as closely coordinate to realize high-level officials’ messages and promote specific cooperation.
The two sides also agreed not to let any individuals and organizations to take advantages of one country’s territory to carry out sabotage activity against the other country, while effectively implementing signed cooperation documents to enhance the effectiveness of crime prevention and control and citizen protection.
Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Ambassador Denny Abdi pledged that, during his term-of-office in Vietnam, he will spare no effort to promote the traditional relations between the two countries in general and the cooperation between MPS and Indonesian law enforcement agencies in particular to depth, for the benefits of the two countries’ people.
