Vietnam, Laos strengthen cooperation in digital transformation

Welcoming Deputy Minister Keovisouk Solaphom and the Lao delegation to Vietnam, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long underlined that the visit demonstrated positive developments in the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) and Lao functional agencies in digital transformation and cybercrime prevention and combat over the past time.
In a frank, open and friendly atmosphere, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long affirmed that the working session gave the Lao delegation a comprehensive insight into the role and significance of the population database, which is considered a crucial national resource and foundation for Laos to step up digital transformation, build e-Government and digital economy afterward.
Highlighting the recent launching ceremony of the project to build national population database and identification card management systems in Laos, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long underlined key tasks to ensure the progress of the project, focusing on the participation of the whole political system as well as strong determination of heads of ministries, branches and localities, which are decisive factors to ensure the success of the project in particular and the process of digital transformation in general.
The host proposed that the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications closely coordinate with the Lao Ministry of Public Security to ensure infrastructure and network transmission for the project, while directing the Lao Energy Efficient Datacenter to prepare location to set up the backup server infrastructure of the project.
On behalf of the Lao delegation, Deputy Minister Keovisouk Solaphom sincerely thanked Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long for answering queries raised by Lao delegation’s members.
The Lao Deputy Minister affirmed that the visit to the National Center for Residents Data of MPS is a valuable opportunity for under-ministerial units of the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications to learn practical lessons and obtain experience in operating and managing data systems, saying that the Lao Ministry of Technology and Communications will further cooperate with Vietnamese counterparts to build a National Population Datacenter in Laos.
