2024 Action Month on Gender Equality and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response launched

PSNews - The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) held a ceremony to launch the 2024 Action Month on Gender Equality and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response, on November 15th, 2024.

This year edition has the theme “Ensuring social security, promoting empowerment and creating opportunities for women and girls to realize gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence".

The event saw the presence of Member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen and UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis.

Overview of the ceremony.

Over the past time, the Party and State of Vietnam have always attached great importance to ensuring social security, promoting gender equality, and preventing and seriously responding to gender-based violence against women and girls.

Thanks to the great efforts of ministries, branches, central agencies and localities, the work of promoting gender equality has witnessed numerous remarkable achievements over the past time.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen underlined that over the past years, the Ministry of Public Security has directed its affiliated units and agencies nationwide to coordinate with relevant units and agencies to early detect and handle cases of gender-based violence and illegal marriage brokerage as well as protect victims of the related cases, effectively prevent and combat human trafficking and child abuse, as well as sign inter-sectoral coordination regulations with other organizations on gender-based violence prevention and response.

To further promote the spirit of gender equality, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen affirmed that the Ministry of Public Security is strongly committed to actively responding to the action month and effectively implementing all assigned tasks in line with the theme of the action month.

On behalf of UN organizations in Vietnam, UN Resident Coordinator Pauline Tamesis revealed that the UN is currently supporting the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in building capacity of police officers in charge of handling cases of violence against women and girls, so as to ensure that the whole investigation procedure is friendly to victims, especially children, while following gender-sensitive and gender-responsive norms.

After the launching ceremony, delegates participated in a parade in response to the action month on gender equality.

Reportedly, many other similar activities were also carried out in localities nationwide.
