Detention centers and prisons asked to strengthen COVID-19 prevention and control

The Police Department of Prison, Correctional Center and Juvenile Reformatory Management under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a video conference on June 3 to review COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control at detention centers and prisons nationwide.
Major General Le Quoc Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security, attended and delivered a keynote speech at the event.

According to reports at the conference, following its upper levels' directions, the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Center and Juvenile Reformatory Management has actively instructed its sub-units to take preventive measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department also provided sufficient medical supplies and vaccinated police officers and soldiers in charge of preventing the pandemic at detention centers and prisons.
At the event, representatives from various detention centers and prisons nationwide briefed the delegates on their results of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control.
Overview of the event.
In particular, the Ngoc Ly detention center located in the COVID-19-hit province of Bac Giang took various preventive measures against the pandemic. As a result, no staff nor inmates at the detention center were infected with the coronavirus. The detention center’s staff also supported the local authorities in controlling the disease.
Notably, officers and soldiers at Ngoc Ly Detention Center have donated their one-day salary, 3000 sets of protective clothing, 15 tons of rice and 7,500 face masks to the Steering Committee for COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention and Control of Bac Giang to fight the disease.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung praised the Police Department of Prison, Correctional Institution and Juvenile Reformatory Management and its sub-units for their great effort in preventing the disease from spreading in detention facilities.
In the coming time, the MPS leader requested the department and its sub-units to continue taking drastic preventive measures against the pandemic. They should promptly work out on specific plans to respond to possible happenings in their detention facilities, he added.
