The campaign, themed “to strengthen measures on improving the efficiency of the compliance with the regulation of wearing helmets when riding motorbikes in the capital city”, aims at raising people’s awareness of and to change their attitude towards the use of helmets while riding on motorbikes.
The Traffic Police Division under the Hanoi Municipal Police Department also drew up a specific plan and coordinated with other units of the Public Security Forces, including the Mobile Police, to detect and handle traffic safety violations in the city.
Patrol teams, which have been setup within the framework of the campaign, will operate daily from 6.30 AM to 0.00 AM the next day until December 31, 2019.
Personal information of violators will also be sent to the workplace or schools (for student cases) as a strong deterrent.
According to the Traffic Police Division under the Hanoi Municipal Police Department, helmets play an essential role in reducing casualties in road accidents as motorcycles are still main means of transportation in the country. Nevertheless, some people, particularly young ones, are not aware of this and often do not wear helmets when riding motorbikes, according to officials.
