MPS delegation attends ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Minister of Public Security, is leading a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) to attend the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity, which is taking place in Singapore from September 29 to October 4.
Delegates of the meeting focused on discussing initiatives on cooperation among ASEAN countries, in an effort to establish a formal cooperation mechanism among ASEAN countries in ensuring cybersecurity. Delegates at the conference also suggested increasing powers of existing ASEAN agencies specializing in cybersecurity, and founding an ASEAN cybersecurity specialized agency and an inter-sectoral coordination committee with the participation of relevant agencies of ASEAN member countries.
Delegates admitted that, over the past 4 years, the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity hosted by Singapore has achieved positive outcomes, which then would be submitted to higher level regional discussions. For instance, some contents of the Declaration of the 2nd Conference was mentioned in the Chairman's Statement of the 31st ASEAN Summit.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Thanh had bilateral meetings with head delegates from Russia, the U.S, the U.K, Australia, Singapore and several ASEAN member countries, to discuss approaches to expand bilateral cooperation in prevention and combat of transnational crimes, including cybercrime as well as cybersecurity.
