MPS supports housing project for poor locals in Son La province

Representatives from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), the Hung Yen and Son La provincial authorities on June 13 attended a ceremony to hand over charitable houses to poor local families, and launch a housing project to support some 1,400 poor people in Van Ho district (Son La province).

The ceremony saw the presence of Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Deputy Secretary of the Son La Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Son La Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Hung Yen Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Hung Yen Provincial People's Committee, several benefactors and representatives of functional units under the MPS.

Over the past time, the MPS’s leadership has directed the Son La Provincial Police Department to survey the housing situation of poor families in the province. Based on the result of the survey, the MPS has decided to launch a project to build and repair 1,383 houses for needy families in Van Ho district, helping them to stabilize their lives and contributing to socio-economic development as well as the security and social order in the locality.

The project also aimed at building hostels and canteens for students at the Phieng Pan Ethnic Minority Semi-Boarding Primary and High School in Mai Son district (Son La province).

So far, the local police have built several model houses which appeared to meet the needs and living habits of the ethnic minorities in Van Ho district. The local police also collect local people’s ideas and experience with the aim of building better houses for the beneficiaries in the coming time.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang presented gifts to the police in Van Ho, Mai Son and Moc Chau districts (Son La province) and the Van Ho communal police (Van Ho District). He also handed VND 5 billion in support of the construction of the hostels for students at the Phieng Pan school.

Also, at the event, representatives of banks, businesses, and other benefactors from Hung Yen and Son La offered financial supports to the housing project in Van Ho district.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the MPS, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang thanked the Hung Yen and Son La provincial authorities as well as the benefactors for their supports for the social project. He also hoped that the local Party committees, authorities and people in Van Ho and Mai Son districts will continue to support and join hands with the local police forces in repairing and building houses for the poor.

Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang asked the Son La Provincial Police Department to effectively coordinate with relevant agencies and units to complete the housing project in Van Ho district before the 15th Son La Provincial Party Congress and the construction of hostels and canteens for the school in Mai Son district as soon as possible.

After the ceremony, the delegates presented gifts to ethnic minority students and handed over the new-built houses to two poor families in Pa Cop village, Van Ho district. The two families thanked the authorities and benefactors for the spacious and beautiful houses.
