Minister To Lam works with Dien Bien Provincial Police

PSNews – General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, on August 6 worked with the Dien Bien Provincial Police Department.

An overview of the meeting. 

The meeting, which was also attended by representatives of specialized agencies under the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), focused on assessing the work of ensuring public order and security as well as socio-economic development in Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien.

Muong Nhe is a border district of Dien Bien with complex terrains. As the district shares border with Laos and China, it holds strategic significance. For a long time, the people in Muong Nhe has close relations with those living on the other side of the shared borderlines.  

Muong Nhe is now home to 10 different ethnic minority groups, of which the Mong ethnic group accounts for over 70%. Most of the district’s current population has moved in from the neighboring provinces of Lai Chau, Son La, Lao Cai Ha Giang and Yen Bai.

Thanks to the support policies of the Party and State and efforts of the local authorities and people, the economic, social and cultural situation in the district has been gradually improved.

However, Muong Nhe is still among the poorest districts in Vietnam.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam stressed the importance of Muong Nhe in terms of national defense and security. He also highly valued the district’s achievements in socio-economic development and national security protection in recent years.

Regarding local hunger elimination and poverty reduction, General To Lam pledged that the MPS will further coordinate with the authorities of Dien Bien and Muong Nhe to call for more support and assistance from businesses, organizations and individual donors to build more houses for policy beneficiaries and poor households in the district.

Minister To Lam also asked the Dien Bien Provincial Police Department to coordinate with specialized agencies under the MPS, authorities of Dien Bien and Muong Nhe to study the housing situation and propose projects to the leadership of the MPS.
