Major Nguyen Xuan Thang was injured while arresting suspect Nong Van Man on July 12. Man, who was born in 1988, residing in Na Ma village, Minh Long commune, Ha Lang district, Cao Bang province, is a most wanted criminal for drug trafficking.
Previously, on December 3rd 2012, the Investigation Police Agency of the Cao Bang Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute and arrest suspect Nong Van Man for his illegal drug trafficking, but Man fled away.
Man then hided in the area near Vietnam-China border but frequently crossed the river to visit his family in Na Ma village, bringing about unsafe feelings to local residents.
In 2016, due to the danger of Nong Van Man and the seriousness of the case, the Cao Bang Police Division for Wanted Fugitives formed a task-force team to arrest the suspect.
On the early morning of July 12th, having spotted Man hiding in his home, the Cao Bang Police Division for Wanted Fugitives in collaboration with local police encircled and arrested the suspect. However, Man fiercely fought back against the police and injured several policemen, including Major Nguyen Xuan Thang.
Although the knuckle of the index finger on his right hand was broken when grappling with the suspect, but Thang still manage to hold the object with his left hand for his team arrested the suspect. Major Thang was then taken to Viet Duc hospital, Hanoi for surgery.
With respect for the high sense of responsibility for fighting criminals of Major Nguyen Xuan Thang, Colonel Nguyen Thuy Quynh on behalf of the Public Security Newspaper inquired after, presented gifts and wished him a full recovery to soon return to work and contribute to ensuing social safety and order.
Colonel Nguyen Thuy Quynh also presented 3 million VND from the "Protecting National Security" funds sponsored by Motorola Solutions Company to Major Nguyen Xuan Thang.
