PSNews - Recently, Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Le Van Tuyen hosted a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Vietnam Shawn Steil, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen affirmed that, since the two countries established diplomatic relations more than 50 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has been developed in a stable, practical and comprehensive manner and achieved numerous positive results in all fields.

The host underlined that Vietnam and Canada have big opportunity to expand their economic, trade and investment cooperation as the two countries have upgraded their relations to a comprehensive partnership and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership coming into effect.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed the upcoming visit of a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to Canada, underlining that the visit will create a valuable opportunity for the two sides to expand their security and police cooperation.

Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen underlined that the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam wishes to promote cooperation with Canadian counterparts, including the Public Safety Canada, in developing logistics, coordinating logistics for emergency situations and disaster relief, stockpiling and distributing essential supplies (medication, food, water and shelter) as well as ensuring supply chain security.

The host also suggested that the two sides coordinate to build capacity of law enforcement forces to deal with cyber threats to the government, businesses and critical infrastructures, transfer new technology and modern equipment in support of border management, immigration management, commercial security and transportation safety, as well as strengthen cooperation in other fields.

Sincerely thanking Deputy Minister Le Van Tuyen for the meeting, Ambassador Shawn Steil emphasized that the Vietnam – Canada bilateral relations had thriven over the past time.

He wished, he would receive much support from the Government of Vietnam in general and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in particular during his term of office in the country, contributing to deepening the relations between the two countries in a practical and effective manner.
