First-ever conference on security for workers held by Ministry of Public Security

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security held a conference, on August 27 in Da Nang, under the chair of Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang to discuss professional approaches to ensure security and safety for workers.

Present at the meeting were also Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang as well as representatives of agencies of the Ministry of Public Security, and provincial-level police departments.

Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang emphasized that security for workers is an important part of economic security and national security in the country in the context of globalization and international economic integration as well as in the current industrialization and modernization process of the country.

It is more important as Vietnam has joint various new-generation free trade agreements and is implementing the related commitments. 

Meanwhile, security for workers is facing many new risks and challenges with potential passive and unexpected factors so it requires the security agencies and local police forces to employ synchronous and drastic professional approaches to ensure security and safety for workers, particularly those working in industrial zones.

As it was the first-ever official conference on security for workers, it contained a number of new concepts and discussions. Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that delegates discuss issues related to security for workers in a responsible and frank manner, pointing out the real situation of security for workers, difficulties and obstacles to functional forces in ensuring security for workers as well as suggesting solutions for the issues.

Meanwhile, the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang suggested that the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security regularly exchange information with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on the security situation and offences in the industrial zones. 

He supposed that local police should proactively grasp the security situation and promptly advise local authorities on solutions to ensure security for workers.

The Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs should coordinate in producing joint decrees on security for workers, propose the Government to issue policies and regulations to support workers in industrial zones, contributing to eliminating usury at industrial zones.

Regarding key tasks for the Public Security Forces in the coming time, Deputy Minister Luong Tam Quang requested the Department of Economic Security to make a comprehensive assessment of the current security situation in industrial zones, give an overall picture of the current situation of security for workers, and point out difficulties, problems, shortcomings and limitations in the work of ensuring security in industrial zones and security for workers over the past time as well as recommend solutions. 

The Deputy Minister noted that it is necessary for ministries, agencies, and the local police forces to strengthen coordination and proactively take appropriate approaches in the coming time.

He stressed that relevant agencies under the Ministry of Public Security and local police units should thoroughly grasp the security situation in localities and the implementation of regulations, policies for workers, resolutely handle security issues in industrial zones and among workers.
