Hundreds disadvantaged children across Vietnam have been benefiting from the “Godmother” program.

Giang Tuan Minh (residing in Kim Noi Commune, Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai Province) has lost his father in a traffic accident. His mother has also left him after that to his old and sick grandparents.

Recognizing his circumstance, the Women’s Union chapter of the Mu Cang Chai District Police Station started taking care of him, and mobilized social sources to support him to go to school. Thanks to the local female police officers’ love and support, Minh can get confidence back, live a normal life, study at school and have a nice dream like other childdren.

Minh is one among hundreds disadvantaged children across Vietnam benefiting from the “Godmother” program, which has been  led by the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security and carried out by public security agencies and units over the past years.

Under the program, Women’s Union chapters of public security agencies and units focus their assistance on  children of fallen public security officers and orphans in very difficult circumstances aged from 5 years to under 18.

Women’s Union chapters also build “homes of love” for their adopted children living with their relatives.

Every month, the “godmothers” provide 300,000 VND to 1,500,000 VND of support for an adopted orphan, depending on their circumstances. They also give school supplies and other necessities to the children.

Women’s Union chapters also build “homes of love” for their adopted children living with their relatives.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Party and Political Work Major General Ngo Hoai Thu, Head of the Public Security Women Committee under the Ministry of Public Security, the “Godmother” program holds great humanitarian meaning, giving practical assistance to children orphaned  by the COVID-19 pandemic in particular and orphans in general. They serve as strong support for the children to live and study normally.

So far, 100%  of the Women’s Union chapters in the Public Security Forces have had their adopted children.

Over the past two years, nearly 1,700 children under 18, including 205 children of disadvantaged public security officers and workers, 18 children of fallen public security officers, 145 children of ethnic minorities and 20 children with serious diseases have been adopted and sponsored under the “Godmother” program.
