 General To Lam chaired a tree-planting event held by the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on February 9 in Ba Vi district, Hanoi.

In his speech at the event, Minister To Lam said that over the past years, negative weather and climate phenomena, prolonged floods and storms have left severe human and material losses, seriously affecting the socio-economic growth of the country.

The Minister stressed that tree planting and afforestation have made important contributions to proactively preventing natural disasters, moderating climate, improving the ecological environment, beautifying the natural landscape, and developing national socio-economy.

At the 10th session of the 14th National Assembly, the Prime Minister proposed an initiative to plant one billion trees in five years and affirmed that it is important to continue promoting afforestation, protecting forests, and effectively operating reservoirs to ensure safety for production and people's lives.

On December 31, 2020, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 45 on organizing "tree-planting festivals" nationwide and strengthening forest protection and development from 2021.

Following the Government's directions, the MPS annually launched tree-planting movements to encourage the whole Public Security Forces to plant trees. In 2021, the forces planted more than 1 million trees, including some 270,000 trees in detention facilities.

Minister Lam asked leaders of public security agencies and units to disseminate the purposes and significance of the tree planting movement, the great effects, comprehensive and long-term benefits, and humane values ​​of tree planting and afforestation, as well as organize tree-planting events in a practical and efficient manner.

Additionally, local police forces should proactively prevent, promptly detect and properly handle organizations and people violating the laws on forest fire safety and forest protection while replicating creative, effective tree-planting models among the police forces.

On this occasion, Minister To Lam presented seedlings and fire protective clothing to the Security Guard Command. Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Son presented trees and fire protective clothing to Ba Vi district police.
