Minister To Lam meets newly-accredited South Korean Ambassador to Vietnam

Minister of Public Security General To Lam hosted a meeting with the newly-accredited Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam Oh Young Ju, on the afternoon of December 15, 2022, in Hanoi.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam wished Ambassador Oh Young Ju great success in her term of office in Vietnam and a large contribution to deepening the relationship between the two countries in general, and cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and South Korean law enforcement agencies in particular.

Minister To Lam highly valued the results of the State visit to the Republic of Korea by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, from December 4 to 6, 2022, saying that it was an important diplomatic event in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.

During the visit, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and President Yoon Suk Yeol announced the upgrading of the bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

Minister To Lam believed that Vietnam and the Republic of Korea still have much potential for cooperation, and the relationship between the two countries will develop in both breadth and depth, in line with the newly-upgraded Vietnam-South Korea comprehensive strategic. 

He also affirmed that security cooperation is a pillar in the overall bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea.

The host revealed that the cooperation relationship between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the relevant Korean agencies is being consolidated and deepened while the two sides have mutual interest in solving difficult security issues in the region and the world, strengthening cooperation activities within the framework of bilateral or multilateral cooperation, and actively coordinating in crime prevention and control, and aid.

Regarding cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and Korean partner agencies, Minister To Lam suggested the two sides enhance information exchange on the region and the world, and issues of mutual concern, coordinate to ensure security and safety for senior leaders of one country to visit the other, as well as support in protecting citizens and the representative offices of one country in the other.

In particular, the two sides should also coordinate with each other in implementing multilateral cooperation mechanisms to which the two countries are member, expand cooperation on countering non-traditional security threats, and effectively cooperate in combating transnational crimes, contributing to ensuring national security of each country and maintaining regional and international peace and prosperity.

In addition, Minister To Lam also asked the South Korean side to support the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam in areas where Korea has strengths, and assist Vietnam in technical equipment and means for crime prevention and control.

Minister To Lam affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security is committed to working closely with the Korean Embassy in ensuring security and safety for the embassy and its staff living and creating favorable conditions for Korean businesses and citizens to live and work in Vietnam.

Ambassador Oh Young Ju sincerely thanked Minister To Lam for the meeting, saying that she will do her best to make positive contributions to promoting the Vietnam –South Korea relationship in general and cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the relevant agencies of the Republic of Korea in particular, on a par with the potentials of the two countries and in accordance with the interests of the two peoples.
