At the meeting, Minister To Lam congratulated Ms. Pauline Tamasis on her new appointment and expressed hope that the UN official on her new position will promote cooperation between the MPS of Vietnam and relevant UN agencies in preventing and controlling transnational crime and peacekeeping operations, contributing to maintaining stability, cooperation and development in the region and world.

The host stressed that the year of 2022 marks 45 years since Vietnam became a UN member. Since then, Vietnam has been elected to various important positions at the UN.

The country has participated in UN multilateral mechanisms in an active and responsible manner, heightened basic principles of international law and the UN Charter, particularly the principles of honoring national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries as well as of pursuing peaceful means in settling international disputes.

In order to expand cooperation of the MPS of Vietnam and UN agencies in the coming time, Minister To Lam suggested that Ms. Pauline Tamasis create favorable conditions for the bilateral cooperation. He also expressed hope that the UN and its relevant bodies continue to support the MPS of Vietnam to improve its capacity to fight transnational crime, especially drug trafficking, corruption, trafficking in persons, money laundering and terrorism.

Minister To Lam also affirmed that the MPS of Vietnam will commit to strengthening coordination with the UN Department of Security and Safety (UNDSS) in safeguarding security and safety for UN offices and officials in Vietnam, and create best conditions for the UN resident coordinator in Vietnam to successfully complete her duties during the term of office in Vietnam.
 

For her part, Ms. Pauline Tamasis thanked Minister To Lam for receiving her and expressed her pride and joy while being appointed as a UN resident coordinator in Vietnam.

She assured that she will do her best to bolster relations between the UN and Vietnam as well as cooperation between the MPS of Vietnam and the UN.
