MPS holds meeting to brief key cadres on amendments to Criminal Procedure Code
The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held an online meeting under the chair of Minister of Public Security General To Lam on November 19 to brief leaders of under-ministerial agencies and provincial-level police departments on the contents of the Law amending and supplementing articles of the Criminal Procedure Code (referred to as the law) and documents guiding the implementation of the Law on the People's Public Security Forces.
The event also saw the presence of Ministers of Public Security, namely Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son and Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc, as well as representatives from the National Assembly’s Committee for Legal Affairs, the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Supreme People's Court, and the Party Committees of provinces and municipalities.
To proactively implement the law, the MPS on November 10 issued Plan No. 466/KH-BCA-V03 with specific purposes, requirements, and tasks for public security agencies and units to review and elaborate the guidelines on the implementation of the law as well as to popularize its contents and relevant guiding documents to police officers and soldiers.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister To Lam affirmed that the Law on amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Criminal Procedure Code, which has newly been adopted by the National Assembly, can remove limitations and obstacles to executing criminal procedures in the time to come.
The Minister asked leaders of under-ministerial agencies and local police departments to organize training courses on legal knowledge and expertise for commune-level police officers so that they can effectively implement the new law, which empowers them to handle crime reports.
He also asked the district-level criminal investigation agencies to closely coordinate with the same-level procuracies to guide and inspect the commune-level police forces’ implementation of the procedures for receiving and handling of crime reports.
